Service Levels
Long Term Care
Long term care is designed for seniors with complex medical needs and/or advanced stages of dementia. Services are offered in a secure setting and include access to 24-7 nursing care, high levels of assistance with an individual’s daily routine—such as morning and evening assistance, meal assistance, bathing assistance, medication management, continence care and much more—and specialized activities and dining.
In Ontario, Long Term Care is publicly-funded and regulated, meaning rent is partially subsidized by the government. Depending on availability, private, semi-private or ward room accommodation may be available. All applications, assessments and wait-lists for long term care are managed by Local Health Integration Networks (LHINs), not by long term care residences themselves.
Admission Process
For residents of Ontario, all applications to Long Term Care homes are coordinated by local Home and Community Care Support Services organizations who plan, integrate and fund local health care. To learn more about long term care coordination in your community, please visit healthcareathome.ca.
